Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Awarded Reaccreditation by Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement (CALEA)

Sheriff Mark Bowen is proud to announce that the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office received reaccreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement (CALEA) at the annual conference on Saturday evening. The accreditation status highlights a lengthy and exhaustive process of creating, maintaining, and complying with numerous policies, standards, and procedures. The Sheriff’s Office, one of only three such agencies in Indiana to carry such a distinction, is committed to the accreditation process that ensures compliance with the letter and spirit of best practices in law enforcement.

Receiving initial accreditation in 2010, the Sheriff’s Office was first reaccredited by CALEA in 2013. The purpose of CALEA accreditation is to improve the delivery of public safety practices by maintaining a body of standards developed by public safety practitioners. The CALEA process is a proven modern management model that presents an agency with a blueprint that promotes the efficient use of resources and improves service delivery. To earn accreditation, agency employees must comply with more than 150 standards. A team of assessors monitors compliance through onsite visits to examine policies and procedures, management, operation, and support services.

All of us at the Sheriff's Office remain committed to providing residents and visitors of Hamilton County with the highest level of excellence in law enforcement. We continue to strive to make the county a safe place to live, work, and visit.
