Advisory

Advisory and request for assistance

The Monroe Police Department received a report that on Wednesday October 26th at approximately 2:00pm, a man knocked on a residents door on High Street in the area of Owen Drive and said he was from the Water Department and needed to check their water due to a water main break. The residents let him in the house where he checked the water in the kitchen sink and in the bathroom and the residents followed the man. The man stated that everything was ok with their water and he left. The next day the resident called Village Hall and advised them of the incident. Once the Police Department was advised of this incident, we quickly learned that no employee of the Village Highway or Water Departments' went to the house in question.

The man in question is described as being in his early 30's, 5'10" tall with Brown hair, Brown eyes and was wearing a Brown hat, Brown jacket and Brown pants. He is also missing some teeth in the front of his mouth. Our Detectives conducted an investigation and canvassed the neighborhood but did not obtain any further information.

This morning the resident on High Street reported to us that they noticed a lot of cash was missing from their house from two different rooms. It appears at this time that while the residents were occupied with the man, a second person entered the residence and stole the money.

Monroe Police are asking for help. If anyone saw any suspicious people or vehicles in the area to please call us at 782-8644 or call our confidential TIPS line at (845) 492-TIPS.

We are also advising residents that if anyone comes to your door stating they are a Village Employee or any other solicitor, please ask them for Identification. DO NOT allow anyone in your house that you don't know. PLEASE call the Monroe Police Department if you are unsure of the person and we will respond and ID the person.
