Lockport PD offers Halloween safety tips.

With Halloween fast approaching, the Lockport Police Department has some safety tips for our resident goblins, ghouls, and their parents.

Trick or treating in the City of Lockport is from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, October 31st.   Residents who are handing out items for trick or treat are encouraged to turn on their outdoor lights so that children can identify the house as one to approach.  If children will be out after dark, they should have flashlights or glow sticks and some reflective material on their costumes.

Parents should caution their children not to eat any candy that has not been checked by an adult.  Parents should consider discarding any homemade treats that their children receive.

Please call the Police Department immediately if you see anything that seems out of the ordinary. Be a neighbor who walks with others in the neighborhood watching out for suspicious activity.  Be a neighbor takes the lead in starting a crime watch and to get to know your neighbors.  Even if you don’t have children trick or treating you can contribute to the safety of your neighborhood by being visible and an extra eyes and ears for law enforcement.

We encourage drivers to be extra careful throughout the day on Halloween as their will be an increased amount of pedestrian traffic.  Officers will be in the residential neighborhoods and will be taking a strict stance against drivers who operate their vehicles in an unsafe manner.

For our adult residents, if you participate in Halloween activities or adult parties, please designate a driver.  Lockport Police officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers throughout the Halloween season.

Finally, please be on the lookout for some suspicious looking police cars.  We have heard that two Lockport Police squad cars have been targeted for haunting by some local spirits.  Feel free to approach these haunted cars and get some candy . . . if you dare!
