Mountain Lion sightings in Winslow Township

Winslow Township / Hammonton border : Winslow Township has received reports of large cat sightings that the witnesses believe were mountain lions. Winslow Township has been in touch with NJ Fish and Wildlife and they are aware of these reports. A grainy video of an animal that looks like a large cat along with a grainy photograph taken with a hunter’s game camera have been submitted and reviewed. It is not possible to determine with certainty what the animals are but we can’t rule out the presence of a large cat or cats. Mountain lions were indigenous at one time in this area but have not existed naturally here for many years. There have been no reports of any contact between large cats and people so It appears that these animals are avoiding people, as they normally do. At this time we don’t believe that the animals pose a threat to people but we suggest that everyone use sound judgement and reasonable precautions with their children, pets and themselves. We ask for everyone’s help to keep track of these animals by reporting any sightings or evidence they have. Please call Winslow Township’s Animal Control at 609-567-0700 ext 1500 to report sightings.
