September 6, 2016 LASD Park’s Bureau employees honored for professionalism/exemplary service to the citizens of Los Angeles County

On September 6, 2016 Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Park’s Bureau employees were honored for providing professionalism and exemplary service to the citizens of Los Angeles County. Park’s Bureau Commander, Captain Ernest Chavez received the Homeland Hero Award from, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor Don Knabe and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Chief Stephen Johnson and Commander Alicia Ault.

Parks Bureau provides law enforcement services for the 180 County parks, golf courses, Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles County Arboretum, South Coast Botanic Gardens, Castaic and Pyramid Lakes, County trails and recreation areas throughout Los Angeles County.

Parks Bureau is divided into three zones, North, South and East, which basically mirrors the County Department of Park and Recreation divisions.  These zones also incorporate Sheriff Station boundaries which enhance communication between park zones and Sheriff Stations.  Parks Bureau Patrol is supported by Detective Bureau, a Special Problems Team, Mounted Enforcement Detail, Lake (Boat) Operations, Off Road Vehicles, Bike Patrol, and a Public Information Office.

Parks Bureau provides a variety of programs in the parks:

  • Brave; this program provides 5-12 year old children with hands-on, activity based, and physical skill development to empower them to deal with instinctual options they need to recognize, avoid and if necessary, respond to potential danger.
  • Deputies have provided training to all Parks and Recreation Department personnel in the following areas:
    • Identification of Sexual Predators
    • Active Shooters
    • Personal Safety
    • Park Watch
  • Youth Mentoring Program
  • Sexual Predator Training to parents at local Parks
  • Homeless Outreach
  • Bicycle Education and Registration (BEAR) Program
  • Basketball Challenge
  • City of Hope Blood Drive
  • Off-Highway Police Activities League
  • Youth Activities League (YAL) at Mona Park
