End of an Era - Thank You from Chief Priebe on his Retirement from Moraga PD

I was sworn in as an original member of the Moraga Police Department (MPD) on December 17, 1979 after beginning my career with the Berkeley Police Department on August 28, 1978. I have been promoted and served through every rank at MPD and have been privileged to serve as your Police Chief for the past 7 years. Today is the last day of my 38+ year career in law enforcement and, as the last original member of MPD, a chapter is closed. I want everyone in our community to know what an honor it has been to serve you. No words can adequately express the gratitude my family and I have for all of the support this community has given us throughout my career, especially during my tenure as Chief. Since February 1 of this year I have served as the Interim Town Manager, and beginning tomorrow (Oct. 1) the Interim title will be dropped and I will begin serving as the Town Council appointed Town Manager. I feel honored to be able to continue my service to the Town in this capacity. Given my personal and lengthy commitment to MPD, I have always expressed how important it is to be able to leave when the department is the best it has ever been, and when capable leadership is in place to carry on and improve the department. I am elated to announce that those conditions are present and I can pass the baton. As the Town Manager I am pleased to appoint Lieutenant Jon King as Chief of Police effective October 1, 2016 and to also announce that Chief King is promoting Sergeant Brian South to Lieutenant on October 2, 2016. It has been a pleasure to watch both develop as leaders and consistently demonstrate their abilities and their passion for our community during the past 8 months I have been Interim Town Manager. With the outstanding men and women currently serving MPD, and the new leadership in place, I expect continued success in keeping Moraga one of the safest communities in the state and I hope you will give Chief King the same level of support and encouragement you have given me. When I was sworn in as one of the original members of MPD, my wife Tracy was in the audience holding our first child, Ron, who was 11 days old. Today, as I retire we have Ron and his wife Dana and their children Colin and Amelia; Griffin and his wife Kim and their daughter Addison; and our only daughter Kay. Tracy and I have been blessed with great children and now grandchildren and a good life. From the bottom of our hearts, we all thank the Town of Moraga for embracing us and for providing me the opportunity to build an amazing career in the noble profession of law enforcement. Sincerely,

Robert “Bob” Priebe
