Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Parks Bureau and Community Partnership deputies, Conduct Abandoned Debris Clean-Up Operation on the Whittier Narrows Nature Center property.

Residents in the area of the Whittier Narrows Nature Center have expressed their concern regarding the trash and encampments that have built up in the area of the property southeast of Durfee Avenue and Rosemead Boulevard, in the City of South El Monte, that’s governed by the County of Los Angeles Parks and Recreation.

During the previous month, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau and Community Partnership deputies, along with staff from People Assisting the Homeless (PATH), Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, made contact with more than a dozen transients living in the area, joined by homeless shelter outreach workers. Offers were made for shelter, medical and mental health treatment, and other opportunities to relocate to an environment safer for both the homeless and nearby community.

On Wednesday, September 28, 2016, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau and Community Partnership deputies, responded to the Whittier Narrows Nature Center property, in an effort to remove abandoned debris.

Workers with the Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation gathered the debris and collected trash left by the homeless.

Whittier Narrows Nature Center is located at 1000 Durfee, South El Monte.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks.
