Attention Rutgers Community:
The Rutgers University Police Department is investigating an aggravated assault which is reported to have occurred at approximately 4:50 PM on September 23, 2016, in Lot 103 which is located at 61 Road 3, Piscataway, New Jersey.
In this incident, the perpetrators engaged in an altercation inside of Lot 103. Witnesses have stated that one of the individuals was armed with a machete and the second was armed with a handgun. The individual with the handgun reportedly fired at a parked vehicle inside the lot before fleeing in a black SUV towards Road 1 and away from campus. The description of the perpetrators is limited at this time.
The Rutgers University Police Department is actively investigating this incident and asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the Rutgers Police Department Detective Bureau at 848-932-8025.
The Rutgers University Police Department reminds you that you can reduce your chances of being a crime victim by taking reasonable precautions, including:
- Secure points of entry to buildings and all work spaces when not in use;
- Remain alert and aware of people and circumstances around you;
- Do not prop open exterior doors;
- Immediately report suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
