HARRIS COUNTY, TX - There will be a press conference on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at 11: 00 a.m. at 1200 Baker Street, Harris County Sheriff’s Office Media Room to address a new initiative to provide awareness to our regarding Sex Offenders.

Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman, in partnership along with members from Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, and the OffenderWatch Initiative Foundation, are deploying a new program known as T.A.S.K., (Teaching Awareness to School Kids). The T.A.S.K. program, which has been used in other areas with guidance of the OffenderWatch Initiative is part of a concerted effort to prevent sexual abuse of the citizens in our community. Parents are being asked in certain area schools to review the content of the brochure that they will be provided with their children, and have an honest discussion with them regarding the reality of sexual abuse and the preventive measures that can be taken to keep them from becoming a victim. The (T.A.S.K.) program is a 3 step email registration process. Upon completion of the program, and with parental assistance, children will print a confirmation indicating they completed the task and submit it to their teacher. Once the assignment has been completed, children will receive a safety prize which, in Harris County is a certificate for a free kid’s combo valid at any Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers locations. The TASK program launches this week and ends the week before Halloween.
