Incident: 21 Year Old Male Petaluma Resident Arrested For DUI After Being Stopped For Speeding.
Locations: Ely Blvd. South at Casa Grande Rd., Petaluma, California.
Summary:
On Monday September 12, 2016 at 9:55am Petaluma Police Department Motor Officer Matt Frick was working traffic enforcement in the area of Ely Blvd. South north of Casa Grande High School. He saw a gold Chevrolet Malibu traveling at what appeared to be in excess of the posted 35 MPH speed limit southbound on Ely Blvd. South and confirmed the vehicles speed at 59 MPH with the aid of a LIDAR (Laser Speed Detecting Device).
Officer Frick caught up to the Malibu as it began to drive around the roundabout at Ely Blvd. South and Casa Grande Rd. The Malibu accelerated quickly through the roundabout and then E/B on Casa Grande Rd. Officer Frick finally got the Malibu stopped on Casa Grande Rd. at Garfield Dr.
The driver was contacted and identified as 21 year old Eric Ziemer a Petaluma resident. Ziemer had an odor of alcohol coming from his person and admitted to drinking the night before. Ziemer performed field sobriety tests and was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Ziemer was placed under arrest for DUI. A breath test was administered which showed his blood alcohol level to be .15 BAC. nearly twice the legal limit to drive in California.
Ziemer was issued a citation to appear and released to a sober responsible person.
