STH 19/Main St. closed for Railroad Crossing Repairs 8/22 to 8/26

State Highway 19/Main Street to be Closed for Railroad Crossing Repairs from August 22nd to August 26th

Starting Monday, August 22nd the railroad crossing at E. Main Street/Hwy 19 near Grove Street in Downtown Sun Prairie will be under repair. This repair work is being conducted by the Wisconsin Southern Railroad along the entire route to allow for safer passage of trains.

Work is scheduled to be completed and the highway re-opened by Friday, August 26th. City staff coordinated these dates with Wisconsin Southern Railroad to avoid traffic from both the Sweet Corn Festival and the start of the school year.

Local traffic (cars only—no heavy trucks) can use Market Street and Park Street as a detour. Motorists are strongly advised to use caution when driving in this area, as it is an active pedestrian area. Eastbound regional traffic on State Highway 19 (including heavy trucks) should utilize the signed detour route of U.S. 151 South, to I39/90/94 South, to I-94 East, to County Highway N North, and back to State Highway 19.

Westbound regional traffic on State Highway 19 (including heavy trucks) should utilize the signed detour route of County Highway N South, to I-94 West, I-39/90/94 North, to U.S. 151 North back, and back to State Highway 19.

A map of the regional detour is included with this release.
