Scam Alert - New twist on old scam

Many are familiar by now with the phony IRS scam where a caller claims to be from the IRS and has found that you owe back taxes and will be arrested if you don’t immediately send them money, usually in the form of pre-loaded payment cards or iTunes card codes. Well, there’s another twist recently of scammers claiming to be from the Michigan Department of the Treasury but using the same threatening script as the IRS scam. The caller ID is often disguised so it appears to be a local area code or even “911”. Frankly, there is wide range of similar scams, that all start with a phone call.

Bottom line defense is to hang up on anyone you don’t know that calls demanding money and claiming you’ll be arrested, because that is just NEVER true. Scammers particularly like to take advantage of senior citizens, so please help pass the word to any seniors that you know.
