Sheriff's Dive Rescue Team assists Fort Mohave Tribal Police Dept.; locates drowning victim near Willow Valley marina

VICTIM: Micheal Galvers, 20 years old, Fort Mohave, AZ
SUMMARY: On August 9, 2016, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Dive Rescue Team was requested by the Fort Mohave Tribal Police Department for assistance in searching for a drowning victim. On August 8, 2016 at about 6:17 p.m. Tribal Police received a call of a 20 year old male who was last seen attempting to swim across the Colorado River, approximately two miles North of Willow Valley Marina in Arizona.
Dive Team members arrived at Willow Valley Marina on Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. and conducted a briefing with Mohave County Fire, Fort Mohave Tribal Police and Bullhead City Fire Departments. Arizona Department of Public Safety assisted with a patrol helicopter (DPS Ranger 1.)
SBCSD Dive Team members entered the water at 8:12 a.m. to conduct the first of six drift dives. At 10:53 a.m. the victim was located at a depth of twelve feet. The location of the body was marked with a marker buoy and coordination was made Bullhead City's fire boat for transportation. At 11:13 a.m., the victim was brought to the surface by Divers Bengard and Caronna and then transported to Willow Valley Marina and released to the Mohave County Medical Examiner.
