We are two weeks away from the start of the new school year. Both Garland and Wylie ISD will start Monday, August 22, 2016. Our main priority is the safety of the children as they make their way to and from the schools.
Starting middle of next week you may see the school zone lights flashing. This serves two purposes, it reminds drivers that school is about to start back up and it is a way of testing all the lights prior to the first day. With that said enforcement will begin on the first day of school. We would also remind everyone that cell phone use in active school zones is prohibited by state law.
We ask that motorists be cautious of children crossing the roads near the schools and we also ask that parents talk with your children and explain to them where they are supposed to cross the street.
For those that have children attending Sachse High School, you may have noticed the new signs on Miles Rd. (placed last year). “No parking, stopping, standing”, this signage was placed to help keep children safe and reduce collisions in the area.
Finally please remember to pay attention to school buses loading and unloading. Do not pass until the lights are no longer flashing and the children are safely out of the road.
