Citizens Uniting with Blue – a project to unify law enforcement and citizens
GRANT COUNTY, Wash. (26JULY2016) - Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones today announced a special campaign to help bring citizens and law enforcement closer together.
Citizens Uniting with Blue (or CUB) is a project to strengthen the relationship that the public has with law enforcement.
“The goal of this program is to build trusting relationships with our citizens,” said Sheriff Jones. “As a symbol of that trust, we will be providing residents of Grant County a blue light bulb to display on or in their homes as a sign of unity and support. This campaign is not about picking sides, but rather partnering with the citizens that we serve.”
The Paul Lauzier Foundation of Ephrata believes in this project and has provided funding for the purchase of 4,000 blue light bulbs which will be given away at several locations across Grant County (see locations below).
“The Paul Lauzier Foundation is honored to join Sheriff Tom Jones and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office in creating the Citizen’s Uniting with Blue program,” said Mike Tabler, Executive Director and Trustee of the Paul Lauzier Foundation. “The program is an expression of mutual respect and trust between the citizens of Grant County and our local law enforcement agencies and emergency services providers. We hope this positive message inspires other to join the people of Grant County, Sheriff Jones and the Paul Lauzier foundation in promoting strong community relationships between law enforcement and the people it protects.”
Joining Sheriff Jones at today’s announcement was retired sheriff’s John Young and Felix Ramon. Sheriffs Frank DeTrolio and Bill Weister were unable to attend but were there in spirit. “The previous Grant County Sheriff’s all worked hard to unify and strengthen relationships between citizens and law enforcement. It is my responsibility as the current Sheriff to carry on this tradition and continue what those men started.”
On Thursday, July 28 at 5 p.m., sheriff’s office staff along with other partnering agencies will be distributing free blue light bulbs at the following locations while supplies last:
