Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 8 p.m., damaging winds with downed trees/limbs/power lines possible
The North Brunswick Office of Emergency Management advises residents that a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for the area until 8 p.m.
With a hot and humid airmass in place and the approach of a cold front, severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening. The main risk is anticipated between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The main threat with today’s storms looks to be damaging winds with gusts on the order of 35 to 55 miles per hour. This could cause downed trees, limbs and powerlines.
As a reminder, always stay away from downed wires. If a downed wire falls on your vehicle, stay in your car, call 911 and wait for first responders to arrive.
To report power outages or downed wires, call PSE&G’s Customer Service line at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).
The threat for severe storms will end around sunset, with any lingering showers and storms tapering off between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.
