Michigan Avenue Construction Update

Some exciting news! Paving from Monroe Street east to near S. Ann Arbor Street intersection is scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) and Monday. Cadillac Asphalt will be in Saline to put down the base and leveling course of asphalt on Saturday and Monday. Hoffman Bros. and their sub-contractors will also continue to work on storm sewers and streetscape items this coming week.
The City of Saline is selling pieces of the old street car tracks on a first come first served basis at City Hall, for those folks that would like to own a piece of Saline history. The cost is $25 for a 12” section of track; a portion of the proceeds will be used to pay for the cost of cutting up the track with the balance going towards a fundraiser to assist in paying for the new downtown streetscape.

Week of July 25th

Traffic Information
The S. Ann Arbor Street intersection will remain open. S. Harris Street will re-open as of today, Friday, July 22nd. The S. Lewis Street intersection is scheduled to be closed beginning Wednesday, July 27th and re-opened on Saturday, August 6th for concrete work at the intersection.
City staff encourages everyone to slow down, be patient and obey the traffic signs. In addition, please do not take short-cuts through private property in an attempt to avoid the current traffic shifts/detour routes, as it is illegal and unsafe. And please pause to let people out of their driveways.
Pedestrian Traffic
Access to businesses will continue to be maintained. Please follow the signs, obey the barricades, and watch your step.
There are parts of the construction zone that are not open to pedestrian traffic. For example, the walkway in front of Oakwood Cemetery on the Michigan Ave side is not open to pedestrian traffic; there are signs in place that say sidewalk closed. There are also signs designating alternate pedestrian routes throughout the construction zone. Please obey the signs and seek alternate pedestrian routes that don’t include walking down the middle of re-routed traffic lanes.
Construction Activities
Storm sewer work at the dam on the west end is scheduled to increase this week. The 48” storm sewer pipe will begin at the dam and head east. Additionally, brick pavers will be installed in the sidewalks along S. Ann Arbor Street beginning Monday, along with more concrete curb and gutter work from S. Harris Street to S. Ann Arbor Street. We will also see some traffic signal work on the north side at the N. Ann Arbor Street/Michigan Avenue intersection beginning on Monday. The contractor needs to complete some work items on the north side in preparation for the flip to the north side in mid to late August. Unfortunately, this will cause some changes to pedestrian access along Michigan Avenue on the north side from Monday – Wednesday. Lastly, Hoffman Bros. is scheduled to work on water main installation from Davenport Street to Old Creek Drive this coming week.
Please stay tuned for updates as the Michigan Ave project progresses. The City of Saline staff will be providing a minimum of a weekly update and sometimes daily informational postings depending on what is taking place in the construction zone.
Remember to visit our local Saline businesses during and after this great project and look for the Pave It Forward logo and the fun promotions being provide by Saline Main Street and the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce.
