Heat wave to begin tomorrow, Excessive Heat Watch issued for Saturday and Sunday

The North Brunswick Office of Emergency Management advises residents that a heat wave will begin tomorrow and last until the middle of next week. An Excessive Heat Watch has been issued from Saturday morning trough Sunday afternoon.

Temperatures are forecasted to be in the mid 90s tomorrow, mid to upper 90s on Saturday and in the lower to mid 90s on Sunday. Heat index values will range from the mid 90s to around 100 degrees.

The North Brunswick Library (880 Hermann Road) has been designated as a cooling station. Their hours on Friday and Saturday are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

To stay safe during the heat wave, please consider taking the following actions:

- Postpone outdoor games and activities and limit exposure to the sun.
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and prevent dehydration; avoid caffeine and limit alcoholic beverage intake.
- Dress in loose-fitting, lightweight and light-colored clothing.
- Spend the warmest part of the day in temperature-controlled buildings such as libraries, movie theaters, shopping malls, or community facilities.
- Check on family, friends, and neighbors who do not have air conditioning and who spend much of their time alone.
