Press Release: Commercial Structure Fire, Singleton Av, Alameda

This morning, at 12:13 am, Alameda Fire (AFD) responded to a report of a commercial structure fire on Singleton Avenue at a self-storage facility. Arriving firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from inside a single-story row of 32 connected storage units. The onsite care taker had evacuated prior to the arrival of fire crews.

Firefighters pulled several hose lines and attacked the fire while others used saws and tools to force entry for access and ventilate the building. Crews encountered access difficulty due to a heavy fire load (storage of contents) inside several of the individual units.

The fire was knocked down at about 1:15 am, and fully extinguished at 3:00 am. Firefighters were able to confine the fire to seven units, all which sustained severe damage. The remaining 25 units sustained minor to severe heat and smoke damage.

There were no reports of injuries. A total of 39 firefighters responded.

AFD Fire Investigators are working to determine the cause and origin.

Oakland Fire covered in at vacant Alameda fire stations. Other agencies that responded were Alameda Police, Alameda Municipal Power and P.G. & E.
