Attention Rutgers Community:

The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating two robberies and the Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) is investigating a burglary which was reported to have occurred in the city of New Brunswick.

The first incident occurred on July 18, 2016 at approximately 10:20 PM on Comstock Street between Jones and Commercial Avenue.

In this incident the victim, who is affiliated with Rutgers University, reported that she was approached by a male perpetrator who brandished a sharp object while demanding items of value. The victim refused to comply and the perpetrator pushed her to the ground before fleeing the area in an unknown direction. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of this incident and refused medical attention. The description of the perpetrator is limited at this time.

The second incident occurred on July 18, 2016 at approximately 10:27 PM in the area of Hamilton and Division Street.

In this incident the victim, who is affiliated with Rutgers University, reported that he was approached by two male perpetrators, one of whom brandished a knife while the other removed an item of value from his pocket. The perpetrators entered a nearby vehicle and fled down Hamilton Street in the direction of Louis Street. The victim was not physically injured as a result of this incident. The first perpetrator was described as a male of Hispanic descent with a light skinned complexion, approximately 5’5” in height, with a heavy build, short black hair, and wearing a brown shirt with dark colored shorts. The second perpetrator was described as a black male, approximately 6’1” in height, with a medium build, short black hair, wearing a dark colored t-shirt and shorts.

The New Brunswick Police Department is actively investigating these incidents and asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the New Brunswick Police Department Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217.

The third incident occurred between 6:15 PM on 7/18/2016 and 7:30 AM on 7/19/2016 at the Chandler Health Center, located at 123 Church Street.

In this incident, the perpetrator gained entry into the building by way of force and removed items of value. The area was unoccupied at the time of this incident.

The Rutgers University Police Department is actively investigating this incident and asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the Rutgers Police Department Detective Bureau at 848-932-8025.

The Rutgers University Police Department reminds you that you can reduce your chances of being a crime victim by taking reasonable precautions, including:

- Walking in groups when traveling during late night hours;
-Remain alert and aware of people and circumstances around you;
- Avoid isolated or dark areas;
- Secure points of entry to buildings and all work spaces when not in use;
- Do not prop open exterior doors;
- Immediately report suspicious activity to local law enforcement.

The escorts provide our community with personalized service to their vehicles, campus residence, or the University's mass transit system.
