On July 19th, 2016 at about 12:50 am, Kern County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a suspect threatening a person with a firearm in the 3300 block of 15th Street West in Rosamond.

When deputies arrived they located the suspect who was leaving the area in a vehicle. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle and the suspect led them on a short pursuit, stopping in the 3200 block of Discovery Way.

The suspect, 32 year old Samuel Johnson, exited the vehicle and brandished a shotgun at deputies. Two deputies fired several rounds at Johnson, striking him at least once. Johnson was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital with moderate injuries and is expected to survive. He was arrested for two counts of attempt murder, one count of terrorist threats, auto theft, and grand theft of a firearm. He will be booked into the Kern County Jail upon his release from the hospital.

The two deputies involved in the shooting have been place on paid administrative leave pending a review of the shooting incident.
