On July 11th, 2016, at 1725 hours, El Cerrito police officers were dispatched to the area of the BART path and Fairmount Avenue on the report of a battery. When officers arrived on scene they located the victim who had been struck in the head several times with a metal object by an acquaintance. Officers who were responding to the area located the suspect, a 56 year-old transient man, Terry Ramirez. Ramirez was identified by witnesses as the person responsible for the assault. The victim was transported to a local trauma center via air ambulance and the suspect was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. The victim is in stable condition and expected to survive. It was determined that both parties were intoxicated at the time of the incident.
