Suspect arrested for failure to yield and hit-and-run

On July 11, 2016 at noon, a Menlo Park Police motorcycle officer attempted to pull over the driver of a gold GMC Yukon for a vehicle code violation. The driver failed to yield to the lights and sirens of the officer and continued through the intersection of Hamilton Avenue between Willow Road and Carlton Avenue. The driver of the Yukon struck an uninvolved motorist and fled the scene on foot. A subsequent search for the suspect led to his quick apprehension by detectives of Menlo Park’s Narcotics Enforcement Team.

The suspect is identified as Kini Evaimalo, a 36 year old male of East Palo Alto. Evaimalo was transported to the hospital for minor, non-life threatening injuries as a result of the collision and was released to officers and booked at San Mateo County Jail for charges of felony hit-and-run, felony evading, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.

As a result of the hit-and-run collision, the victim driver sustained minor, non-life threatening injuries. In addition, the motorcycle officer sustained non-life threatening injuries from a contemporaneous collision.

Police are asking for witnesses to this incident to contact the police department at (650) 330-6300 or the anonymous tip line at 650-330-6395 for any information.
