Asbury, NJ Women Sentenced for Theft from P.T.A.

Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III, announced the sentencing of Crystal L. Bernat, age 34, of Asbury, NJ.

On June 3, 2016, Crystal Bernat, the former president of the Union Township Parent Teachers Association, was sentenced to five years probation by the Honorable Angela F. Borkowski, JSC. Berant had previously pled guilty to one count of third degree theft on May 6, 2016. As per the sentencing, Ms. Bernat will also be required to make full financial restitution to the Union Township P.T.A.

According to Prosecutor Kearns, “Ms. Bernat was arrested in October 2015, after a joint investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey State Police revealed that while acting as the Union Township P.T.A. President, she removed a large sum of money from two separate Union Township P.T.A. bank accounts. Ms. Bernat was charged with Theft, Forgery and Uttering, all third degree crimes.”
