Press Release: Shark Sighting

Press Release:

Date: June 30, 2016

Time: 8:20pm

Today June 30, 2016 at approximately 11:30am two Deal lifeguards reported seeing 2 sharks approximately 6-7 feet in length offshore of the Deal Casino. The Sharks were observed following a school or "pod" of dolphins traveling north towards the city of Long Branch. The Sharks were observed approximately 100-150 yards off-shore. The Deal lifeguards along with the Deal Police Department took precautionary steps and ordered all swimmers out of the water. The Deal Police Department immediately notified surrounding towns, social media and several other agencies.

While we are well aware sharks live in the ocean, we want to ensure that everyone is informed that a shark was sighted in close proximity to our service area.

We want to thank everyone for their concerns and should a similar sighting or incident occur in the future we will disseminate the information as fast as possible. We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable July 4th weekend!
