Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau – Special Weapons Team, Emergency Services Detail and K-9 Detail, Crisis Negotiation personnel responded to the 3100 block of East Avenue S-2 in the city of Palmdale, to assist Palmdale Station personnel with an armed barricaded Kidnapping suspect, a male adult, who was holding approximately six to seven hostages. 

On Saturday, June 25, 2016 at approximately 12:25 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Air 5 helicopter, transported several Special Weapons Team personnel to the area of the barricaded suspect.  When they arrived at the location they assumed command of the tactical response.  After communicating with the suspect for several minutes the suspect released some of the hostages, however, he continued to hold one person hostage.  Moments later a gunshot was heard coming from inside the residence.  Fearing for the safety of the remaining hostage, members of the Special Enforcement Crisis Entry Team made entry into the residence and found the suspect was suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.  All the hostages were unharmed by the suspect.   

The Crisis Entry Team rescued the remaining hostage, while Emergency Services Detail personnel rendered medical aid to the suspect.  The suspect was subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.  The suspect is currently listed in critical condition.  

The investigation is on-going and there is no additional information available at this time.
