Edinburgh Man Dies After Fleeing from Police-Update-Autopsy Completed

Columbus-Yesterday, an autopsy was performed on Robert Quick, age 44, Edinburgh, Indiana after he collapsed and died while fleeing from Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputies on Monday, June 20, 2016.  The pathologist who conducted the autopsy has ruled that the final cause of death will be determined when the toxicology results are returned.  However, it was determined that the cause was natural in nature and that no foul play is suspected.

Additional information will be released once toxicology results are completed and a final determination of death can be made.

The original news release follows.

Columbus-The Indiana State Police has begun a death investigation after an Edinburgh man fled from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department and died after collapsing during the incident.

The initial investigation by Indiana State Police Detectives determined that on June 20, at approximately 8:30 pm, the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department responded to a suspicious vehicle call in the 5100 Block of North County Road 250 West in Bartholomew County.  Upon arriving in the area, deputies observed a white 1996 Dodge van traveling in the area.

While being followed by two deputies, the vehicle suddenly came to a stop.  A backseat passenger, later identified as Robert A. Quick, age 44, Edinburgh, Indiana, exited the vehicle and fled on foot from the officers.  Quick then entered the Driftwood River and swam across to the opposite side while being pursued by one of the deputies.  Upon reaching the opposite side of the river, Quick began having medical difficulties and collapsed.

The deputy soon made it across the river and located Quick, who was unresponsive.  The deputy immediately called for medical personnel and began initiating medical care to Quick.  Quick was soon transported to Columbus Regional Hospital where attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.  Quick was pronounced dead by Bartholomew County Coroner Larry Fisher.

It was later determined that Quick was wanted on multiple warrants out of Johnson and Bartholomew Counties.

An autopsy on Quick is scheduled for Wednesday, June 22 at Columbus Regional Hospital.  The investigation into the cause of death is ongoing.

The Quick family has been notified.
