Automated Trash and Recycling Collection

The Town is converting to automated curbside trash and recycling collection beginning July 1st. During the last several weeks of June, all households eligible for service will be receiving a black 35 gallon wheeled cart for trash and a blue 96 gallon wheeled cart for recycling. These carts will be provided at no additional cost to eligible households.

Due to efficiencies created utilizing automated collection, this will result in an increased level of service and a projected cost savings of over $ 700,000.00.

Beginning July 1st, all trash and recyclables intended for curbside collection must be properly placed in the provided wheeled carts. Trash will be collected weekly on your normally scheduled day. Trash intended for collection must be properly placed at the curb, placed in the official Town provided black 35 gallon wheeled cart or in the official Pay-As-You-Throw (PAYT) purple bags. Trash placed in any other manner will not be collected.

Commencing the first week of July, recycling collection will occur on a bi-weekly schedule on your currently scheduled collection day. All eligible households will be collected during the same week. Recycling intended for collection must be properly placed at the curb inside the Town provided blue 96 gallon wheeled cart. Additional wheeled recycling carts may be placed for collection. Additional carts must be the Town's official cart or properly labelled as recycling. If it is not an official Town cart, it must be compatible with the automated collection equipment to receive service. After the initial cart distribution, the Town may provide additional Recycling carts. Additional carts will be provided on a first come, first served basis while supplies are available.

Bulky and hard to manage wastes (TVs, mattresses, refrigerators, ACs, furniture, etc.) will be collected by appointment only. Eligible households may utilize this service up to once per month.

A mailing will be sent out to all eligible households explaining in greater detail the program specifics and calendar. If you have not received your wheeled carts by June 30th, please contact the Department of Public Works at 508-384-5477.
