ECPD Out on Bicycle Patrol Today
The El Cerrito Police Department is proud of our bicycle patrol program. The program has been in existence since 1998 and has become a model for other police departments in the region. We currently have two bicycle patrol instructors and have instructed police officers from around the State on how to patrol on two wheels.
Patrolling on bicycles is a great way for officers to get into our community and enhance multi-modal safety. Today Officer Sarah Perez is out on the BART Path with our bicycling and pedestrian public. If you see her around, stop and say hello. When officers are out on bikes, it has been our experience we are more approachable. Each year our officers dedicate hundreds of hours to bicycle patrol; it is healthier for the officer, healthier for the environment, and gives us a chance to be more social. Talk with Officer Perez about bicycle safety, pedestrian safety, or any other topic you would like.
