Advisory

Fraud/Scam Alert from the Alaska State Troopers.

Multiple people have reported to Alaska State Troopers that they were contacted by a person identifying themselves as a trooper. The person is NOT a Trooper. The caller explains to their victim that a court date was missed or a warrant has been issued for them or a family member. The caller then asks that the person get pre-paid debit cards to pay off the required fee. The scammer provides the victims with a 1-800 number to contact the caller and leave a message for additional instructions if needed. 1-800-935-7570 is one phone number the scammers are known to have given out. There may be other 1-800 numbers. The scammers are targeting people in multiple communities around the state. Be aware that the Alaska State Troopers will NOT ask for payment over the phone or offer to negotiate for reduced payment in lieu of arrest. If you are concerned that you may have a warrant for your arrest with the AST, you can look at the active warrants website: http://dps.alaska.gov/AST/warrants/
