Advisory

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) is re-opening a voluntary reimbursement for Indiana residents.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) is re-opening a voluntary reimbursement for Indiana residents who want to build a storm shelter in their home. When the program was first launched, some participants didn’t read details and were not aware that this was a rebate program. Participants must complete and pay for the project to receive the financial support offered. IDHS wants to raise awareness to residents due to interest being high.

IDHS is asking EMAs to help promote the safe room program and potentially identify candidates interested in participating. Following is a press release which gives more information on the program as well as some informational resources on building a home storm shelter. The program does offer a 75 percent rebate (up to $4,500) for the construction and installment of a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) compliant safe room. Those interested must complete an online application at http://bit.ly/1TijCt4.

Please share with your contacts as you deem appropriate and refer any program-specific questions to [email protected].
