Pair of Traffic Stops Lead to Drug Arrests

Recently, two traffic stops conducted by troopers in the Versailles District led to the arrest of two men on numerous drug related charges.

**On Sunday March 22nd, shortly after 8:00 a.m., Trooper Nate Adams conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Explorer in the 400 Block of East Main Street in Madison.  During the course of the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle, Elmer Moore, age 54, Versailles, Indiana identified himself verbally as a different person.  Trooper Adams soon learned the true identity of Moore, who had a suspended driver’s license.  Moore was initially arrested for identity deception and driving while suspended and transported to the Jefferson County Jail by the Madison Police Department.  During a search of his vehicle, Trooper Adams located marijuana, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.

Moore faces charges of identity deception, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while suspended.

**Yesterday, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Trooper James Herbert conducted a traffic stop on a Ford van on Washington Street near Franklin Street in Greensburg.  During the course of the stop, the driver of the vehicle, Michael Abbott, age 60, was found to have a suspended license and was found to be in possession of hypodermic syringes that were allegedly used to inject illegal drugs. 

Trooper Herbert arrested Abbott on charges of driving while suspended and possession of a hypodermic syringe.  While at the Decatur County Jail, Abbott was found to be in possession of two baggies that allegedly contained methamphetamine. 

Abbott was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a hypodermic syringe, and driving while suspended.
