WIS 54/Wood and Portage County U reconstruction meeting scheduled June 2
Construction of region’s first J-turn currently scheduled to begin as early as June 6
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is conducting a public meeting to discuss this year’s reconstruction of the WIS 54/Wood and Portage County U intersection between Wisconsin Rapids and Plover.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 2, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Biron Municipal Center, 451 Kahoun Road, Biron. Citizens who are deaf or hard of hearing and require an interpreter may request one by contacting Kristin McHugh at least three working days prior to the meeting via the Wisconsin Telecommunications Relay System (711).
Project information
Work is currently scheduled to begin as early as June 6. Crews will reconstruct the intersection as a J-turn. Videos demonstrating how to drive the J-turn are available at: http://projects.511wi.gov/54countyu/j-turn-information/
Traffic impacts
• Motorists on WIS 54 can expect to encounter single lane closures, some flagging operations, and a reduced speed limit of 55 MPH.
• County U will be closed at the intersection with WIS 54 for three weeks in late summer. No detour will be posted.
• WIS 54 will remain open to one lane of traffic in each direction.

Construction-related traffic impacts are subject to change and are dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction status.
