Troopers Investigating Serious Crash I-70 EB 145 MM

Wayne County - Troopers are investigating a serious crash on I-70 east bound just west of the Centerville Rd. exit. The crash involves two semis and two passenger vehicles, and there is one confirmed fatality.

The preliminary investigation is that an east bound semi, pulling a box trailer, was going too fast for the existing traffic conditions prior to entering a construction zone. Traffic at the time was backed up five miles and stopped in both east bound lanes just prior to the Centerville Rd. exit.

The semi glanced off of a passenger vehicle in front of him, before running into the stopped line of traffic in the passing lane. That semi impacted a passenger vehicle stopped in the traffic and pushed it under the trailer of the semi in front of it.

There is a confirmed fatality in that vehicle, and a passenger from that vehicle was transported from the scene with serious injuries. Neither driver of the semis, or the first passenger car, were injured.

The crash remains under investigation, and no further information will be released until notifications have been made.
