Semi and Car Accident sends one to Hospital

Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that on 5-16-2016 at 10:12pm Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff's Department were called to the intersection of M-60 and Hospital Street for a two vehicle accident. 18 year old Niles resident, Tobin Michael-Ray Weldy, was operating his vehicle traveling west bound on Hospital St. when he ran the stop sign at the intersection. Weldy was struck by a semi that was traveling south bound on M-60, driven by Forreston, IL. resident John Lietzen. Weldy was checked by Edwardsburg Ambulance on the scene and transported by his father to St. Joseph Hospital for injuries. Mr. Leitzen did not sustain any injuries during the crash. Seatbelts were worn during this crash and alcohol and substance abuse is unknown at this time.

The Cass County Sheriff's Department was assisted by Edwardsburg Ambulance, Cass Fire, and Michigan State Police.
