2 Arrests for Larceny From a Vehicle

 

 

                Dearborn, Mi. — On Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at approximately 2:30 pm, Dearborn police officers responded to the 600 block of Town Center Drive on a report of two suspects stealing items from a parked vehicle. Upon arrival Officers discovered a Chrysler 300 with a smashed out rear window and the vehicle’s navigation system removed from the dashboard. Officers obtained a description of the suspects, and their vehicle, and located  the suspect vehicle in the area of Evergreen and Michigan Ave. Officers conducted a traffic stop at which time they were approached by a citizen who stated that she observed the suspects throw a black box from their vehicle as they fled the area. Officers recovered a Chrysler Navigation System which had been stolen from the victim’s vehicle. The suspects were placed under arrest and lodged at the Dearborn police station. The suspects, both Detroit residents, were identified as 21 year old Taquille COLLINS and 24 year old Swayvon SHERROD. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office authorized the following charges.

 

COLLINS was charged with the following:

Felony Larceny-From a Motor Vehicle (LFA)

Breaking and Entering- a Vehicle with Damage to Vehicle

 

SHERROD was charged with the following:

Felony Larceny-From a Motor Vehicle (LFA)

Breaking and Entering- a Vehicle with Damage to Vehicle

 

COLLINS and SHERROD were arraigned in the 19th District Court by the Honorable William C. Hultgren.  A Probable Cause Conference was scheduled for May 20, 2016 and a Preliminary Exam date of May 27, 2016 at 9:00am was set.  COLLINS’ and SHERROD’s bonds were set at $25,000 cash.  Both will be required to wear a GPS tether if they post bond.

            Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad stated, “We are grateful that a citizen took the initiative to contact the police immediately which allowed us to respond and apprehend the suspects.  Due to the concerned citizen’s willingness to get involved we were able to recover the stolen property and prevent the suspects from further victimizing our residents and visitors. This is yet another example of the police and community working together to ensure that Dearborn remains a safe place to live, work, and visit.”
