Dump Truck and Car Collide in Work Area

Dump Truck and Car Collide in Work Area

Vigo County—This afternoon at 1:20, Indiana State Police and Riley Fire/Rescue responded to a two vehicle crash on State Road 46 just south of Interstate 70. The crash resulted in minor injuries to a small child.

Preliminary investigation revealed a white, 2016 International dump truck, driven by 64-year-old James Hodges of Spencer, IN., was southbound on SR 46 approximately 300 yards south of I-70. Spencer was attempting a right turn into a construction work area, when he was struck in the right side by a blue, 2012, Chevrolet passenger car, driven by 22-year-old Tyler James Hunter of Terre Haute, IN.

Tyler Hunter and his adult male passenger reported no injuries. Tyler Hunter’s three-year-old daughter, Heidi Hunter, had visible signs of abrasions, which appeared to be from the belts of the child safety seat she was riding in. She was taken for medical examination by family.

Tyler Hunter was found to have no valid driver’s license and wanted out of Putnam County, Indiana for Failure to Appear. Hunter was cited for no valid license and incarcerated in the Clay County Jail awaiting pickup from Putnam County.

James Hodges was not cited or injured.

The dump truck was operated under Lynn Trucking of Plainfield, Indiana.

The crash was investigated by ISP Master Trooper Troy Cobb. Assisting were ISP Sergeants Chris Wright and Joe Watts, and Riley Fire/Rescue/EMS.
