The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

May 5th.

1408 Hours: Officer Arroyo contacted and arrested a 21 year old Newark male for possessing narcotics and a 19 year old Newark male for an outstanding arrest warrant. Both suspects were issued citations and were released.

1532 Hours: Officer Heckman contacted and arrested a 50 year old Newark male for possessing drug paraphernalia. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1935 Hours: Officer Ackerman arrested a 30 year old male from Hayward for his outstanding warrant. The suspect was issued a new court date.

2357 Hours: During a traffic stop at Dupont Ave/Musick Ave, Officer Ackerman arrested a 21 year old male from Newark for driving without a license and possessing marijuana. The suspect was issued a citation and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

0013 Hours: Sgt. DeSerpa contacted a 45-year-old male (transient) at the corner of Central Avenue and Timber Street. The suspect was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and booked at the Fremont Jail.

0443 Hours: Sgt. DeSerpa was performing a security check at the Cedar Village shopping center and located a 29 year old male from Oakland, sitting inside a vehicle to the rear of the closed businesses. The suspect was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, issued a citation and released at the scene.

0455 Hours: Officers Ackerman and Officer Posadas were performing a security check at the Dodge dealership when they heard noise coming from the Ford dealership. They noticed a subject fleeing from the Ford dealership to the rear of the AAA building. The officers checked the Ford dealership and found a vehicle up on jack stands with its wheels removed. Officer Homayoun checked behind the AAA building and located a U-Haul pickup that was warm to the touch and left with its doors left open. The area was checked but the suspect(s) were not located.

April 6th.

1516 Hours: Officer Musantry was dispatched to the area of Thornton Avenue and Cedar Blvd for a report of an intoxicated subject riding a bicycle into traffic. Officer Musantry contacted and arrested a 53 year old Newark male for public intoxication. The suspect was booked at the Fremont Jail.

2009 Hours: Officer Warren initiated a pedestrian stop on the corner of Cedar Boulevard and Ballantine Drive. The 27 year old Newark male was arrested and booked at the Santa Rita Jail for his outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

0252 Hour: Officer Slavazza investigated a restraining order violation on the 35900 block of Anjou Place. A 57 year old Newark male was arrested and booked at the Santa Rita Jail.

April 7th.

1220 Hours: Officer Mapes conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested 37 year old Newark male on his outstanding warrants. The suspect was cited and released at the scene.

1235 Hours: Officer Mapes conducted a warrant service on Albyn Court. A 37 year old male of Newark was arrested for a felony warrant as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. His 32 year old girlfriend also of Newark was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.

1815 Hours: Officer Slavazza investigated a disturbance on the 36600 block of Beutke Drive. A 46 year old Newark male was arrested for his outstanding warrant. He was cited and released.

0204 Hours: Officers were dispatched to a disturbance on the 36600 block of Beutke Drive. A 65 year old Newark male was arrested for physically intimidated and oppressing a victim while continually using racial slurs. A methamphetamine pipe and approximately 6 grams of methamphetamine were also found in his possession. The suspect was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia and violation of a person’s civil rights. The suspect was booked at the Santa Rita Jail.


April 8th

0719 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated a burglary at the National Enterprise Gas Station located at 7275 Thornton Avenue. The front door of the business was smashed open. The loss is cash, cigarettes, and lottery tickets. CA Lottery state investigators were notified of the theft.

0902 Hours: Officer Nobbe investigated a stolen vehicle from the 37200 block of Cedar Boulevard. The victim’s dark blue 1997 Honda Accord license # 3VVE826 was stolen from her assigned stall.

1201 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated a vehicle burglary in the parking lot of Home Depot. The victim’s vehicle was broken into by two Hispanic adults and one White male adult. The suspects fled the scene in a newer SUV black in color. Loss was tools.

1344 Hours: Officer Mapes initiated a traffic stop on a Black 2010 Nissan Altima license # 6LEY517, as the car came to a stop on Olive Street north of Dairy Avenue , the passenger quickly exited the vehicle and took off running south on Olive Street, with Officer Mapes giving chase on foot. Officer Losier spotted the suspect at the intersection of Olive Street and Dairy Avenue and initiated an arrest. The 32 year old transient Newark male suspect was arrested for his outstanding felony warrant and for obstructing a Police Officer. The suspect was booked at the Fremont Jail. Officer Mapes is working to identify the driver of the Nissan who fled from the scene.
