SUMMARY:

On May 6, 2016 the Petaluma Police Dept. conducted two DUI/DL Checkpoints. The first checkpoint was held in the S/B lanes of Sonoma Mountain Parkway south of Corona Rd. The checkpoint began at 6:50pm and concluded at 9:00pm. There were 285 vehicles which drove through the checkpoint and a total of 284 drivers were checked for signs of intoxication and having a valid driver’s license. 17 drivers were asked to conduct series of field sobriety tests when it was discovered they had consumed alcohol during the evening. None of those 17 was found to be under the influence of alcohol. 2 drivers were cited for driving without possessing a valid California Driver’s License. 2 drivers were cited for driving on a suspended driver’s license.

 

 

The second checkpoint was located on Petaluma Blvd. North at Gossage Ave. and ran from 11:00pm until 2:15am.  There were a total of 226 vehicles which passed through the checkpoint which were all screened for signs of intoxication and being in possession of a valid driver’s license. A total of twenty six drivers were evaluated in a secondary screening location for objective signs of intoxication. 6  drivers were issued citations for driving without valid California Drivers Licenses. 2 drivers were issued citations for driving on a suspended driver’s license.

 

 Four drivers were arrested during this checkpoint for DUI:

Joel Gomez-Chavez, a 23 year old male, showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and performed poorly on FST’s. He submitted to a breath test and the result of the test showed he was over the legal limit of .08 BAC. Gomez-Chavez was released to a responsible person with a citation to appear in court for DUI and driving a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level of above .08.   He also determined to be operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license

 

Joshua Chaddock, a 27 year old male, showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and performed poorly on FST’s.  He submitted to a breath test and the result of the test showed he was over the legal limit of .08 BAC.  Chaddock was transported to the Sonoma County Jail.

 

Maria Hernandez, a 35 year old female, and Rinah Ramos, a 36 year old female, both showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and performed poor on FST’s.   Both submitted to breath tests and the results of the tests showed they were over the legal limit of .08 BAC.  Both were released on citations to appear in court for DUI and driving a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level above .08.

 

Two other individuals were arrested for outstanding warrants.

 

Brian Sullivan, a 33 year old male, was contacted at the check point and determined to be in violation of his active DUI probation.  He was arrested and transported to the Sonoma County Jail for the violation.
