Young Bicyclist Rides into Path of Pickup
Vigo County—This evening at 7:06, Indiana State Police and other emergency agencies responded to a pickup versus bicycle crash in front of 9500 North Rangeline Place in New Goshen.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 1994 Chevrolet pickup, driven by 17-year-old Gabriel Dreher of rural West Terre Haute, was northbound on Rangeline Place, when nine-year-old Noah Hoopingarner of 9500 North Rangeline Place, rode his bicycle westbound across Rangeline Place into the path of Dreher’s vehicle. Hoopingarner was reportedly riding from a nearby yard to his own residence.
Hoopingarner was stabilized by members of the New Goshen Fire/Rescue and transported to Terre Haute Union Hospital by paramedics from Riley Fire/EMS. Hoopingarner appears to have only numerous abrasions and contusions, but he is still undergoing testing.
Dreher was not injured or cited. Drugs and/or alcohol were not a factor.
The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Rondell Shelton. Assisting were Vigo County Sheriff’s deputies David Ewing and Mary Parmer, West Terre Haute Police officers, New Goshen Fire/Rescue and Riley Fire/EMS.
