Oklahoma Experiences Significant Increase in Murder Rate

The OSBI is releasing preliminary crime report statistics which show an alarming increase in the murder rate. From 2014 to 2015, the number of murders has increased 35.4% in Oklahoma.
Other violent crimes tracked by the OSBI include rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Those numbers have not dramatically changed. OSBI also tracks several non-violent crimes – burglary, larceny, and auto theft. Those statistics have decreased by nearly 5%.
The OSBI has the statutory mandate to collect statistics on index crimes from Oklahoma law enforcement, report those numbers to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and publish that information in the Oklahoma Uniform Crime Report. OSBI statisticians are putting the finishing touches on the full report. It will be published later this month.
As for the reason Oklahoma has experienced such a jump in the murder rate – OSBI will not provide an opinion.
