“Police Blotter” Highlights – Ending May 1st, 2016

SHOOTING
On Thursday, April 28th, around 6:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 13th St. and University Dr. on the report of a promiscuous shooting. Different callers reported hearing four to five gunshots. Four suspects were ultimately taken into custody by police. This is an ongoing investigation.

ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON
On Monday, April 25th, around 7:30 p.m., Ofc. Moffitt responded to the area of Arroyo Dr. and Chesapeake Dr. on a report of a battery, which was ultimately deemed to be an assault. A female suspect, who was known to the victim, blocked in the victim’s vehicle, pulled her out of it, and punched her multiple times. The victim reports that several other female suspects were involved as well. The incident is being forwarded to the D.A.’s office for charges against the suspect.

BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, April 25th through Sunday, May 1st, there were two reported residential burglaries and one attempt:
• 4500 block of Fernandez St.: Occurred on Tuesday, April 26th, around 8:45 p.m. An observant witness noticed two suspects with flashlights inside a neighbor’s house. The suspects fled when police arrived, but were located and arrested. One of them was still in possession of items stolen during the burglary, along with burglary tools. A suitcase with more stolen property was left in the backyard when they fled. Donte Jenkins, a 22-year-old Oakland resident, and Derrick Stoots, a 22-year-old Sacramento resident, were both arrested.
• 30700 block of Granger Av.: Occurred on Friday, April 29th, between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Entry was made via the rear sliding glass door. The loss included firearms.
• 200 block of Famoso Plaza (attempt only): Occurred between Sunday, April 24th at 6 p.m., and Monday, April 25th at 2:15 a.m. A front window screen was removed and the front door deadbolt was tampered with. No entry or loss.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, April 25th through Sunday, May 1st, there was one reported commercial burglary:
• 1700 block of Decoto Rd.: Occurred on Thursday, April 28th, around 10 p.m. The front window was smashed with a rock, and the loss included cash.

AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS
From Monday, April 25th through Sunday, May 1st, there were nine reported auto burglaries. As with the previous week, the majority of them were in residential areas. On Monday, April 25th, witnesses on Amaral St. called police after they observed two suspects breaking into cars around 1 a.m. Police responded quickly and arrested Oakland residents Gerardo Duenas, 24, and Gosvami Marquez, 19. The stereos stolen from the two vehicles were recovered in a backpack. Burglary tools and a loaded shotgun were also found in the suspect vehicle.

From Monday, April 25th through Sunday, May 1st, there were four reported vehicle thefts. As of the time of this report, two of the vehicles have been recovered.

Next week’s city council meeting will begin with ceremonial honors and a presentation in recognition of National Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week. Come join our officers in their dress uniforms for this moment of Union City pride and solidarity.

When: Tuesday, May 10th, 7:00 p.m.
Where: City Council Chambers, 34009 Alvarado-Niles Rd.

The presentation will last about 25-30 minutes, after which the regular city council meeting will resume and those who do not wish to stay may leave. It’s a good idea to arrive a few minutes early to get a seat, as the presentation will begin promptly at 7 p.m.
