UPDATE - DNA results confirm KEON BAILEY is the sole suspect responsible for the murders of Louis & Rose Giuntini

INCIDENT: Homicide Investigation

LOCATION: 19900 block State Hwy 18 Outer Highway, Apple Valley

VICTIMS: Louis Giuntini, age 95; Rose Giuntini, age 92, residents of Apple Valley

SUSPECT: Keon Bailey, age 20 of Lancaster (deceased)

On Wednesday, May 4, 2016, investigators received DNA results from the Riverside/San Bernardino Cal-DNA Laboratory that confirmed Keon Bailey was the sole suspect responsible for the deaths of Louis and Rose Giuntini.

On Wednesday, March 9, 2016, investigators served a search warrant at a residence Keon Bailey had been temporarily staying at in Apple Valley, which, was in close proximity to the crimes being investigated. During the search warrant investigators recovered the Green Bay Packers sweatshirt and black shorts Bailey is seen wearing during the robbery at Neils Donuts on Sunday, February 28, 2016. The clothing, along with several other items of evidence, was found to have DNA evidence from the victims on them.

Investigators have identified Keon Bailey as the sole suspect responsible for the following crimes in Apple Valley:

Sunday, February 21, 2016, a residential burglary in the 15700 block of Tuscola Road during which a handgun was stolen and later used in the robbery of Neils Donuts in Apple Valley and a Torrance jewelry store.

Sunday, February 28, 2016, between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., Bailey robbed and murdered Louis and Rose Giuntini inside of their residence in the 19900 block of outer Highway 18.

Sunday, February 28, 2016, at 10:55 a.m., Bailey robbed Neils Donuts located in the 18100 block of Highway 18, during which Bailey shot at a store employee with the handgun stolen on February 21st.

Sunday, March 6, 2016, at 11:30 a.m., Bailey committed a home invasion robbery in the 15600 block of Myalon Road.

Through investigation and working collaboratively with Torrance Police Department, Long Beach Police Department and Los Angeles Police Department, Keon Bailey has been identified as the suspect in a robbery in Long Beach that occurred on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at a floral shop. Investigators from the Sheriff’s Department have provided additional investigative information to the Los Angeles Police Department related to possible crimes committed by Bailey.

Keon Bailey was released from state custody on February 18, 2016. On Tuesday, March 8, 2016, a Torrance jewelry store owner shot and killed Bailey during an attempted robbery. During the less than three week crime spree committed by Bailey, investigators have determined that he routinely searched news and social media outlets for any information announcing his possible involvement in the murders and robberies he committed in Apple Valley.

UPDATE: Thursday, March 10, 2016

The extensive investigation has been continuing since February 29th, into the murders of Mr. and Mrs. Giuntini. Investigators have collected evidence that leads them to believe they have identified a person of interest in this investigation. However, confirmation of that evidence has not yet been scientifically determined.

In addition to the homicide, three recent crimes have been committed and certain evidence recovered from each scene is consistent in all locations. On February 28th, at approximately 10:55 a.m., an armed robbery occurred at Neils Donuts in the 18100 block of Hwy 18
Apple Valley. Surveillance video from the donut shop was recovered and positive identification of the suspect, Keon Bailey, was confirmed on March 9th. On March 6th, a home invasion robbery occurred in the 15600 block of Myalon Road in Apple Valley. Evidence was recovered at the home invasion robbery by investigators and is consistent with the donut shop robbery and the homicide.

On Tuesday, March 8th, a Torrance jewelry store owner shot and killed a man during an attempted robbery. The suspect has been positively identified as Keon Bailey. Bailey was found to be in possession of property that was reported stolen from victims in Apple Valley.

Keon Bailey was released on parole from State Prison on February 18, 2016, his previous crimes were for Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property, Rape, Grand Theft, Trespassing and Sexual Battery.

The investigations are continuing and updated information will be released as soon as it becomes available.

UPDATE: Tuesday, March 1, 2016/3:11 p.m.

Detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, have determined through the death investigation of Mr. and Mrs. Giutini, that they are both victims of homicide. Autopsies will be conducted to determine cause and manner of death.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects responsible for the deaths of Louis and Rose Giuntini. On Monday, February 29, 2016, at 4:18 p.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Police Department responded to a residence in the 19900 block of State 18 Outer Highway in Apple Valley following the report of two deceased elderly adults located inside the residence by a family friend who was checking on them. Upon arrival, deputies and fire personnel confirmed the victims, Louis and Rose Giuntini, deceased.

Due to suspicious circumstances, detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division responded to the location and are currently conducting a Death Investigation.
