Fatal traffic collision in Hollenbeck Area

“22 YEAR OLD BICYCLIST KILLED IN TRAFFIC COLLISION IN HOLLENBECK AREA”

Los Angeles- On May 4, 2016, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a fatal traffic collision occurred on Avenue 26 and Humboldt Street in Hollenbeck Area.  The collision occurred when Giovanni Cali, 22 years old and a resident of Los Angeles, and his companion, Esteban Ruiz, were riding their bicycles southbound on Humboldt Street.  As they entered the intersection at Avenue 26, Ruiz saw a vehicle traveling westbound on Avenue 26 and was able to avoid being struck.  Mr. Cali, however, did not see the vehicle and was struck by the oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, Kazem Samadi, 49 years old, also a resident of Los Angeles, was interviewed and released at the scene.  He was not under the influence of drugs or narcotics.

The cause of the collision still under investigation by detectives from Central Traffic Division.
