Details:
On May 4, 2016, Gilroy Police Officers responded to Monterey Road and Buena Vista Avenue on the report of a man down in the roadway. The male was deceased upon arrival and was found to be the victim of a vehicle vs. pedestrian hit-and-run collision. The 20-year-old driver of the vehicle initially fled the scene but returned to the scene to report his involvement.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin by the Santa Clara County Coroner. The factors leading to the cause of the collision are currently under investigation. The investigation will determine what caused the collision and if alcohol or other intoxicants may have contributed to the collision.
The investigation is currently being investigated by the Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team.
