SUSPECT: Jared T. James, 22 year old Las Vegas resident

VICTIM(S): Confidential

SUMMARY: On Saturday, April 30, 2016, Deputies Mayra Hernandez and Aaron Griffin, from the Victorville Police Department, responded to St Mary’s Medical Center to investigate a kidnapping and attempt murder. Hospital staff reported that a 17 year old male and his 17 year old girlfriend had been brought to the emergency room by a Good Samaritan.

The two victims had attended a high school prom and was returning to the male victim’s apartment to retrieve personal items. The suspect pulled into the parking lot just as the male victim exited his car. The suspect, who was a longtime friend of the female victim, forced the two into his car at gunpoint. The suspect then drove to an isolated area off of the 15 Freeway, near Dale Evans Parkway, and stopped the car. The two men began to fight inside of the car and the gun was discharged twice but luckily no one was struck. The female victim was able to escape as the two males were fighting and she ran to a nearby truck. Meanwhile the two men continued to fight and the victim was able to get the gun away from the suspect. He then used the gun to hit the suspect and was finally able to run from the scene. The truck driver and female victim drove back toward the area where the incident occurred and found the male victim. The truck driver then drove the two to St. Mary’s Medical Center. The suspect drove to a family member’s house and the family member transported him to Loma Linda Veteran’s Hospital.

Deputy Hernandez was able to locate the gun near the scene of the incident. The vehicle was also located and recovered at an address on Seneca Road in Victorville. The female victim did not suffer any physical injuries and the male victim was treated for his injuries and released.

The suspect was treated for his injuries and arrested for kidnapping and attempted murder. He was booked at the West Valley Detention Center and is being held on $1,000,000.00 bail.
