Jury Convicts LeFlore County Murder Suspect

This afternoon a jury convicted Elvis Thacker of first degree murder in the 2010 murder of Briana Ault. Briana was reported missing to the Fort Smith, Arkansas, Police Department. Her nude body was found in a pond in Pocola, Oklahoma. Her throat had been cut. Brothers Elvis and Johnathen Thacker quickly became persons of interest. The two were tracked to an apartment complex in Fort Smith. Fort Smith detectives and OSBI agents went to the apartment. Fort Smith detectives had an arrest warrant for the two for rape. When detectives entered the brothers' apartment, Elvis Thacker stabbed a Fort Smith detective. Another Fort Smith detective shot Elvis several times. Elvis survived the shooting. Eventually, Johnathen Thacker pled guilty to first degree murder and agreed to testify against his brother. Johnathen received life in prison. After a week of jury selection and three weeks of testimony, a jury convicted Elvis Thacker of first degree murder and forcible sodomy. The punishment phase of the trial begins Monday. The jury will determine if Elvis Thacker should receive the death penalty, life without parole, or life.
