APD officers arrest male for burgalry and abandoning chlid in North Amarillo
On April 27th at 10:30 AM, APD officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Birch on a residential alarm. Officers turned onto the street and saw a Hispanic male wearing a red shirt run from the house and get into a gray Chevrolet Malibu. The male drove away before officers could stop him. Officers followed the car and driver refused to stop and began driving erratically through the neighborhood around Palo Duro High School. The officers cancelled the chase due to the driver putting the public in danger. The homeowner reported that a TV and jewelry were missing. The investigation continued into the identity of the suspect. Officers and dispatch gathered information that the suspect vehicle could be at the apartments at 900 Charlotte. At 1:00 AM on April 28th, officers located the suspect vehicle at the apartment associated with it. Officers went to the apartment to speak with the driver. Officers knocked on the door and got no answer. They could see the blinds moving and could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the apartment. A search warrant was written. Before officers could serve the warrant, a male came out of the neighboring apartment yelling at the officers. The suspect in the apartment that the officers were knocking at had broken through the wall and assaulted the male in the neighboring apartment. The suspect then jumped off of the balcony and ran on foot. Officers caught the suspect in the 1700 block of Amarillo Blvd East. Michael Adrian Jimenez HM 26 ran from the apartment and had left a young child alone in the apartment. Officers detained Jimenez and served the search warrant on the apartment. Officers located the young child in the apartment. He was turned over to a family member. Officers found a computer that had been reported stolen in a burglary of a residence in the 800 block of South Hayden on April 25th. They also located the TV that had been taken in the burglary earlier in the day and a small amount of marijuana. Jimenez was treated at a local hospital for injuries he received from jumping from the balcony. He was booked into the Potter county Detention Center for the charges of Burglary with the Intent to Commit Assault, Abandoning or endangering a Child without the Intent to Return, Evading Arrest/Detention on foot, Possession of Marijuana Under 2 Ounces, and two local municipal warrants. Jimenez was not booked on any charges tied to the stolen property.
