Keeping Your Eyes Open

As always, I review all reports that occur in Canyon Country West (Zone 7).  Lately, I have noticed an increase in grand theft autos.  It is unfortunate that this is a problem we have to deal with, but there are a few tips to help combat future incidents.

1.       Lock vehicle doors and shut all windows.  This may detour possible thieves.

2.       Do not leave anything of value in the open.  This makes it easy to pick what vehicle they are going to steal, or steal from.

3.       Call the Sheriff’s Department if you see people looking into vehicles.  If you see someone looking into vehicles and checking door handles they are probably up to no good.

4.       Be a good witness.  If possible, obtain a good suspect description (height, weight, clothing description, etc) and if you lose sight of them remember what their last seen direction was.

As always, please call me if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Deputy Jonathan Wilson
