Press Release - Auto Burglar Arrested

On Monday, at approximately 1025 hours, the Signal Hill Police Department Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call from a citizen regarding a suspicious person (suspect) in the 2000 block of Junipero Avenue.  The caller stated, the suspect had parked his car in the area, walked to a different car, and was now pulling on that car's door handle in an effort to get into it.  The concerned citizen believed the suspect was trying to steal from the vehicle.  The suspect left the 2000 block of Junipero Avenue but was located a few blocks away by a detective.  Officers conducted surveillance on the suspect.  The detective and officers witnessed the suspect enter an unlocked parked limousine and then appeared to be rummaging around inside of it.  The officers detained the suspect and located the limousine owner.  The limousine owner stated the suspect did not have permission to enter the limousine.  A warrant check on the suspect revealed an outstanding warrant for a theft incident in Signal Hill.  The officers arrested the suspect and he was booked for his outstanding warrant, driving on a suspended license, and for illegally entering the limousine.

The motto "see something-say something" has been taught by the Signal Hill Police Department at numerous community meetings.  The Signal Hill Police Department encourages people to use this motto in reporting all suspicious activities.  Chief Michael Langston said, "The residents and business owners play an important role in keeping the community safe.  Every citizen and business can have an effect on reducing crime by reporting suspicious activity.  This is a fine example of a citizen collaborating with their police department to keep their neighborhood safe from criminals."
